Abstract:The rate and speed at which companies can introduce products into the market are critical for sustaining competitive advantage and market share in fast-cycle , high technology industries. This paper analyzes new product development by three international manufacturers dominating a segment of the electronic component industry, and examines the impact of two distinct product development strategies and structures on time-to-market. Time-to-market is viewed as a key source of competitive advantage , particularly in "fast cycle" industries where product life cycles are often two years or less.
