Abstract: | Some breakthrough products combine existing technologies in novel ways, other innovations require the successful commercialization of nascent technologies. Such innovations depend on entirely new structures and methods demonstrated in research environment but not yet refined to the point ready for production. The path from nascent technology to full-scale production presents numerous managerial challenges. This study discusses these challenges and describes methods for managing the successful commercialization of nascent technologies. These methods are illustrated by examining Sony's commercialization of laser diodes. |
