Abstract:One of the most knowledge intensive processes in business is new product development (NPD) which also itself constantly creates new knowledge. The question is how the knowledge which mostly is tacit should be managed. Through a data from 12 large global manufacturing companies three typical organisational structures for knowledge management are identified. The area in focus is the alternative formats for job rotation that each structural style promotes, and the prospect of some 'ideal type' of knowledge management structure as a hybrid of these styles is examined.
