Abstract:In this study, measured are the dimensions of uncertainty, starting from the definitions built for and generally used in innovation projects. Their direct and indirect effects on the performance of product and service development projects are evaluated. There are four uncertainty dimensions delimited with satisfactory validity and reliability, suggesting a differential moderating effect of the four uncertainty types, that is, market uncertainty, technical and project uncertainty, and fuzziness and complexity, depending on the performance dimension, i.e. efficiency and effectiveness, and co-moderator, that is, project methods and human resource (HR) adequacy.
Of the four explored dimensions, market, technical and project uncertainty are true moderators with the largest interactive effect, fuzziness has a strong direct effect on both performance dimensions whereas complexity has a weak direct influence on effectiveness etc.
