Abstract: | A framework for management control of a new product is presented. Five mechanisms - the control climate; management involvement; supervision; the selection and socialization of individuals and organization structure are defined to comprise a management control system. These mechanisms are key not only because they have a significant influence on the control of new product development projects, but also because they are amenable to manipulation by management. There is no one best management control system for all situations. Rather, the management control system that will be most successful is the one that is best suited to a particular product strategy. |
