Abstract:Entrepreneurs are attracted by big firms: they like big problems, the large capital base, and the equipment and technology available. The 3M is encouraging entrepreneurship. This has made it possible to have 25 per cent of sales from products that did not exist five years before. The firm's nationwide success is marked by its more than 50 Golden Step Winners. The ways of fostering creative climate are described /executive champions, freedom to fail, scrounging, dual ladder policy, communications network/. The story of how Post-It Notes came to be is told. The characteristics of 3M's reward system are summarized. Suggestion for developing a creative climate are made.
