Abstract:In the early morning hours of August 2, 1996 in Vancouver, Canada, negotiators for Japan and the United States agreed on a joint statement on semiconductors, thereby taking the first step toward forming a new international order in semiconductor trade. Two days earlier, on July 31, the 10 year old Japan-US Semiconductor Agreement, the cause of many arguments over Japanese and global trade policies, had expired. The changes are part of the History of Japanese-US trade.
