ANALYTICAL REVIEW

Abstract:For at least three years, since the launch of the euro, analysts (including ourselves) have been talking about the overvaluation of the dollar and the weakness of the euro and to a lesser extent the yen, and generally predicting a correction of that disequilibrium at some point in the medium term. The dollar has finally fallen to below parity against the euro. Such depreciation has long been expected but, for all that, the suddenness of this fall - triggered by a loss of confidence in US equities in the wake of recent accounting scandals - has been a surprise. This article explores the impact of that shock on the prospects for the global recovery.
