Abstract:Although the Sex Discrimination Act,1986 encouraged employers and unions to re- examine their agreements to ensure they are not discriminatory, there is still not much "equality bargaining" taking place in industrial relations practice. The reasons behind this are examined in a research which identifies three areas: the inclusion of benefits of particular interest to women; the "equality aware" handling of commonplace bargaining agenda items like pay; an "equality dimension" to negotiation of change.
