Abstract: | Grace's Japan Research Center was founded as a window on Japanese technology in those areas where Japan is strong and Grace has strategic business interests. The major factors influencing the decision to build a laboratory in Japan were: increasing strength of Japanese technology in core areas of Grace business, competitive threats from Japanese companies to Grace business worldwide, enhancement of Grace's image as a high technology company in Japan, inadequate technical support for introduction of new Grace products in Japan. The firm recommended establishing a laboratory to provide technical support and carry out relatively long-range research for the existing Grace operations in Japan. |
