Abstract:The purpose of this article is to test empirically whether the entrepreneurship is a notable vehicle for knowledge flows and economic growth. Knowedge is an important ingredient for economic growth, and it is exploited commercially when transforming knowledge into products and processes. However, knowledge stock and the absorptive capacity of agents are conditional for the capability to produce, identify and exploit knowledge. This leads to a situation where realized entrepreneurial opportunities could emerge because incumbent companies don't exploit all new knowledge. The results from this study suggest that to boost economic growth it is more effective to increase innovative start-up activity than general entrepreneurship.
