Abstract: | Japanese corporations are about the only ones that have demonstrated the ability to move quickly into emerging new industries and out of declining ones. In the move to rationalize the global marketplace, management and organizational skills will be the critical success factors. A wider scope of business operations will emphasize the need to handle diversity. Being big only in a home country can mean losing global competitive advantage. Being merely big can sacrifice advantages of size plus scope. Industry specialization, applicable for business-level operations, cannot be assumed as a sufficient corporate strategy for the global organization of the future. |
