Abstract: | Research on the gendered dimensions of workplace restructuring (hereafter as: r-g.) focuses on management strategies and structural consequences. This study analyzes material from in-depth interviews with front-line (here as: f-l.) public-sector employees following a major reorganization. The study makes three contributions to theory and research on gender and organizational change by highlighting 1. the micro-level dynamics at the heart of r-g., 2. the importance of gendered meanings and identities in shaping how workers engaged with the public service ethics, and 3. by showing that f-l. employees did not passively accept management plans for change. |
