Abstract: | In this study the authors show the reasons why intra-firm trade between U.S. multinational parents (MNCs) and their Canadian manufacturing affiliates increased significantly (roughly doubled) between the years 1984-1995. The authors suggest that the declining of tariff and transport cost were not the most important factor in the significant increase. They suggest that the main reason was the improved logistic management practices, such as the "just-in-time" (JIT) production system. The authors use a regression analysis combined with various case studies to draw on their conclusions. |
