Abstract:The growing prevalence of corporate codes of ethics globally is reported by recent figures of KPMG. There is found a similar trend in surveys of the largest corporations in Australia, Canada, and Sweden by Svensson (et al.)
Based on a survey of Canada's largest corporations, this study aims at empirically assessing the determinants of the effectiveness of corporate codes of ethics by regressing managers' perceptions of code effectiveness against various elements of ethics programs. It is found that, in a statistically significant model, 18 independent variables explain 58.5 per cent of the variance in the perceived effectiveness of corporate codes of ethics.
