Abstract:Kuhn's (1970) work on paradigms is used a means of illuminating action learning and the more traditional form of management education. The paper provides some insight into the state of management education and the means by which new paradigms gain credence and acceptance. Action learning is treated as therapy, as philosophy and as a toolbox of techniques. It is reported to solve numerous problems, such as manager self-development, helping deal with the issues of the management of change and the development of management competencies. Action learning also claims to be used as a vehicle to driver organizational development.
