| Abstract: | The Egyptian arable land is highly dependent on artificial supplies of fertilizers especially of nitrogen-fertilizer as a result of the perennial irrigation. The demand for the fertilizers was met by imports in the 1920s and since the middle of the twenties the Chilean salpetre producers were subject to the increasing competition from the German nitrogen industry. |
