Abstract:The concept of employee ownership-primarily through employee stock ownership plans - has become widely accepted. Nevertheless, in most cases the Adoption of ESOPs have not been accompanied for reasons analyzed in this article. One of the fundamental premises of American business is that ownership conveys authority and control. Do firms with employee stock ownership programs allow greater employee involvement in management decision? What form does this involvement take? What situational factors influence the ownership-involvement relationship? These issues provide the focus for this article.
