Abstract:This article describes Bridgestone Corporation's approach to research and development management, especially for new business areas. A market related dialogue, a differentiation strategy, and strategies to build new business units are the main approaches used to improve research and development effectiveness. Daily communication with top management, and close linking with related departments are very important, and setting challenging goals is a most effective way to motivate researchers.
