| Abstract: | Bandwagons are processes whereby organizations adopt an innovation, not because of their assessments of the innovation's efficiency, but because of a bandwagon pressure caused by the number of organizations that have adopted this innovation. This article reviews theories on bandwagon processes, and uses them to distinguish characteristics of organizations that exert a major effect on the occurrence of a bandwagon. It further develops a mathematical model and testable propositions about bandwagons' occurrence, extent, and persistence. |
