Abstract:Outsourcing of materials components or services has become a common practice among world class manufacturers. The goal of outsourcing is to obtain from outside suppliers what the firm needs at the time it is needed, at the best terms available, so that the operations objectives (quality, dependability, flexibility, and efficiency) are achieved. Thus, outsourcing gives a competitive advantage whenever a portion of the value chain can be located outside the company to strengthen the operations strategy while providing a linkage between decisions in operations and the corporate strategy.
