Abstract:This article examines the gendering processes among postgraduate students working on their PhD in a political science department. Founding on the theories of gendered organizations and hidden discrimination, the paper studies the mechanisms of the gendered organization and its hidden discrimination, and the ways these two function together. The results of the study reveal that the department of political science studied here is a male-dominated environment, in which many women PhD candidates face gender-related problems. The findings indicate that much of the department's recruitment takes place in all-male inside circles, and also the gendered symbols of proficiency in the field were found to depict the man as the norm. The article argues that this leads to the marginalization of women political scientists, who in the prevailing circumstances have very limited chances of making a career in the department.
