Abstract: | This article explores how conferences (hereafter as: confs.) can be occasions for the configuration of emerging organizational fields by describing three attended confs. by the author during the development and commercialization of cochlear implants. These confs. functioned as venues for a variety of activities ranging from information exchange to technological possibilities' implementation. It is argued that a full appreciation of confs. as holistic events offers an especially valuable entry point to gaining a deeper understanding of how new fields are assembled in real time. |
