Abstract:This study aims at understanding food choice in relation to animal food production and at exploring how preferences are influenced by information. Using a choice experiment, the study focuses on chickens reared indoors (henceforth as: c-r-o.) and outdoors and chicken labelled (as: l-chkn.) campylobacter-free (here as: c-f.) vs. non-labelled chicken. There is suggested to be a positive willingness to pay (WTP) for both c-r-o. and for c-f. l-chkn. Information about rearing methods resulted in a higher WTP for c-r-o., while information about campylobacter had both positive and negative effects on respondents' WTP. The highest increase in WTP for c-f. l-chkn. was found for one of the high risk groups.
