Abstract:The author takes three examples from the Polish social life to show the relationship between organizational life and the cultural context of organizing. The first shows how an ideology was used by the political and economic leaders to manage meaning shared by the participants in economic life. The second witnesses a battle over meanings, in which the winning side made use of prerogatives for control granted by society and of elements of national culture. The third approaches the individual perspective to see what is the rule of elements of the broader cultural context in everyday organizational life.
