Abstract:Since 1979 trade union membership has fallen in Britain owing to the widespread unemployment and basic changes in occupational structure. A lot of older workers have lost jobs in the traditionally well unionised industries and failed to get employment. The data of the National Child Development Study (NCDS) is used to report levels of union activism among young workers and to analyse its correlates.
