| Abstract: | In his book, Competitive Advantages: Creating and Sustaining Superior Performance (1985), Michael Porter provides fifteen criteria to aid in determining if a firm is a "good" competitor. These criteria are applied to the Japanese and evaluate the desirability of having Japanese competitors in an industry, as well as provide an analysis of alternatives for dealing with them. From the argument it appears rather obvious that the Japanese can be clearly considered bad competitors. They can be considered good competitors only in the sense that they tend to be credible and viable, have realistic assumptions and knowledge of costs. |
