Abstract:The effect of regulations, product recalls' influence on industry and consumers, and the wider issues concerning crisis management represent an under-researched area. This article describes a large product withdrawal of pharmaceuticals in Australia and New Zealand, basing on an examination of media coverage and on interviews with key informants in manufacturing, retailing and the regulatory system. With the multi-brand recall procedure, the paper examines the effectiveness of the management of a cross-border withdrawal from regulatory and consumer policy perspectives and makes recommendations for the future.
