Abstract:The study investigates the liability aspects of the voluntary labelling on food packages. The labelling can often contain information about the ingredients that may cause an allergenic reaction. Specifically the attention is paid to the position of labelling on the package. The study was made trying to find adequate solutions for the labelling problems to make allergic consumers satisfied with the warnings and labelling congruent with the Directives of the European Union. The findings reveal that the consumers want more detailed information about the ingredients on the packages. It is also suggested that the risk of allergic consumers is reduced by means of redesigning the manufacturerÂ’s production process or providing a warning on the package. Some kind of risk grading system is also suggested to measure the risk.
