Abstract:As the emerging democracies of Eastern Europe try to make capitalism work in an ethical manner, their historical background and the national culture acquired over centuries cannot be ignored, as this study from Estonia eloquently shows. One possible way of dealing with the subject of ethics in business is to focus on the concrete ethical problems and conflicts which arise in everyday work and to look for the best ways of solving or avoiding these problems. Another way is to search for deeper reasons for the emergence of such problems.
