Abstract: | The author states that western-minded elite has put Estonia on the electronic map. The most advanced state in the former USSR is a frontrunner for EU membership - and an inspiration for its neighbours. The paper also provides a number of figures considering the following subjects: 1. Internet use forecast; 2. Wireless operator market share; 3. Value of national IT and telecoms market; 4. Population; 5. GDP; 6. Telephone lines. The author also states that international accolade, even a song competition, means a lot to these small states, isolated from the West during 50 years of Soviet occupation, now growing fast and seeking acceptance into the European Union and Nato. |
