Abstract:This study explores the influence of hierarchical position (henceforth as: h-posn.) on both mediation (here as: medn.) satisfaction and uncertainty about the medn. It is supposed to be most likely that h-posn. will affect the medn. process and its outcomes. The study hypotheses are tested using data from 50 real cases of medn. dealing with hierarchical labour conflicts in the Netherlands. As expected, uncertainty has a stronger negative effect on subordinates' satisfaction with the medn. than it does on the supervisors involved in mediation.
