Abstract:The 12 Arab stock markets are throwing open their doors to foreign investors. Their USD 85 billion combined capitalization is expected to double by 2000, a clear sign that the markets are at last taking their place on the global investment network. The day after the prime ministers of Israel and Jordan met near Aqaba in August, the Amman Financial Market experienced an outburst of trading activity concentrated on shares in banks and construction firms, both of which stand to be among the first beneficaries of the peace accord.
