Abstract:In the battle for world market share, the global position of American enterprise has improved considerably during the pat decade, though not to the degree that talk of the "new economy" once implied. Japan's world-class competitors continue their thurst, despite their moribund domestic market. And European companies' performance was mixed and marked by major business restructurings, while once-heralded arrival of emerging market multinationals has largely failed to materialize.
