Abstract:In this paper, the authors contribute to the discussion on the impact of outsourcing in three Central and Eastern European countries. The authors set up an empirical study and investigate the impact of international outsourcing on the skilled-to-unskilled wage bill ratio in the Czech Republic, Hungary and Poland. The authors base their hypotheses on a one-sector model of outsourcing. This decision is motivated by the empirical observation of large within-country-and-skill-group differentials of wage rates in each of the countries under consideration. They interpret this as an indicator for only limited mobility of labour between sectors in the short-run, supporting the one-sector model view as compared to the other approaches.
