Abstract:This article examines whether Parmalat’s failure can be considered a particularly Italian case or not. The author compares the characteristics of Parmalat’s corporate governance structure with those among other Italian listed companies and also with higher corporate governance standards in Italy. The findings suggest that the Parmalat case is a particularly Italian case. However, Parmalat’s corporate governance structure failed to comply with some of the key corporate governance standards in Italy.
