Abstract:This article analyzes tendencies to the subversion of sociology as a discipline. The study relates external factors of the wider socio-political environment of higher education in the UK with the internal organization of the discipline. The paper argues that while sociology exports concepts, methodologies and personnel it lacks the internal disciplinary integrity of the other exported disciplines like economics and political science. The consequence is potential loss of disciplinary identity.
