Abstract: | This paper proposes a theory of risk colonization. A distinction between societal and institutional risks (here as: soc-rks. and inst-rks.) is introduced. It is argued that pressures towards greater coherence, transparency, and accountability of the regulation of soc-rks. can create inst-rks. by exposing the inevitable limitations of regulation. ... Links btw. a theory and the concept of governmentality are discussed. It is concluded with some speculations about the possible positive and negative consequences of risk colonization. |
