Abstract:In today's economy, knowledge is seen as an economic driver. It has become a resource, a commodity that can get packed and transferred. This study aims to provide a comprehensive review of the scope, trends and major actors in the development and use of methods to manage innovation (henceforth as: invn.) in a knowledge-driven economy. Identified are the main invn. management techniques (as: IMTs) aiming at the improvement of firm competitiveness through knowledge management (KM), with special focus on those IMTs for which knowledge is a relevant part of the invn. process. The traditional idea of invn. being based on research and interaction btw. firms and other actors has been replaced by the current social network theory of invn. with knowledge playing a crucial role in fostering invn. Based on a survey at the European level, it is concluded that a knowledge-driven economy affects the invn. process and approach.
