Abstract:This paper analyzes how the concept of trust is approached and defined in various disciplines in order to reach an acceptable definition that could be used in business research. Much of the business research on trust has its roots on social psychology, economics or philosophy. An analysis of the various levels and dimensions of trust as well as an enumeration and differentation of the related constructs may advance the study of this phenomenon. Practitioners often call trust the most important success factor for their business, and researchers also acknowledge that informal trust relationships are widespread and important for business.
