Abstract:This article examines three options for using rest-streams (hereafter as: R-Ss) in food production systems. All systems produce same commodities, but the R-Ss are used for either feed for livestock or energy generation. The systems are evaluated paying attention to their land use requirements. The results show that the first system using R-Ss for feed uses less land than the second system using R-Ss for energy generation. The third system feeding livestock with feed crops uses least land, but compared to the first system, the difference is small.
