Abstract: | This article discusses how spreading working hours through the day and week might affect how people use their time and participate in leisure social activities. The authors use an empirical investication of Swiss railway employees with two-day diaries and questionnaires. The study suggests that people who work shifts are less likely to live in households made up of several persons or a person who also works in shifts. The author also argues that shift workers have slightly more social time than non-shift workers. |
