Abstract:This paper aims to identify the key factors impacting on foreign direct investment (FDI) in the South African tourism industry in order to successfully attract and sustain FDI and to remain competitive. A survey was performed using questionnaires completed by various estate agents in South Africa specializing in dealing with foreign direct investors. There are found the following key factors: perception and infrastructure, government and policy, economy, competitiveness, and nature. The results also indicate which type of product is preferred by which international market. The results can be used to assist government policy on FDI and for marketers in focusing on specific issues in their marketing campaigns.
