Abstract: | The selection of an appropriate simulation model structure in a transportation project is reported. Multistage mail surveys are applied to a sample of trucking companies as the data-collection technique. By reviewing the advantages and disadvantages of the discussed modelling approaches, it is found that the advantages of flexibility and short length in programming of discrete-event simulation can be combined with the link-based conditional probability branching routeing logic. Since the simulation program contains neither network knowledge nor freight-flow data, the simulation model is a generic traffic-routeing processor using link-based conditional branching logic. |
