Abstract: | In this article the author considers the social relations mediated through the workplace among Russian teachers. The comparison of the social networks of 40 St. Petersburg and 38 Helsinki teachers in 1993 revealed that, contrary to expectations, the number of social relations mediated through the workplace in Russia significantly exceeded the in Finland. Whereas 28% of all social ties of Helsinki teachers were work-mediated, the corresponding figure for their St. Petersburg counterparts was 48%. |
