Abstract:The study aimed to test and extend the role and expectancy participation model first advanced by Mitchell and extended by Schuler. The results support and extend the usefulness of Schuler's model. Four hypotheses were tested using a sample of 187 retail store managers. Results indicated that job objectives were related to the role variables and satisfaction. Participation considerably attenuated the job objectives, role conflict and job satisfaction relationships.
