Abstract: | This study examined whether red tide events had influence on park attendance. It was found that the presence of red tide, measured through four models incl. nearby cell counts, did not affect park attendance. Yet, the appearance of the search phrase "red tide" in local newspapers uncovered notable reductions in average daily park attendance of 398 (21 per cent) visitors, representing revenue losses of USD 16,955 etc. ['red tide': 'an occurrence of (sea)water discoloured by an algal bloom' by Oxford English Dictionary] |
