Abstract:After much controversy the new British media law was adopted in November 1990. The old media control organs will be replaced by a new one: the Independent Television Commission. Changes in the management of Channels 3, 4 and 5. 15 year licences will be given to satellite programs. A Broadcasting Standards Council will be set up. BBC may collect fees on its own. Antitrust measures. The act wants to break the monopoly of present media performers. The notion of quality is something totally new in media legislation.
