| Abstract: | The wage differential has a strong negative effect on the relative employment of skilled and unskilled workers. Because of the wage rigidity and other reasons such as specific qualifications, the relative employment (number of skilled workers divided by the number of unskilled employees) varies counter-cyclically. Apart from this, it is shown that it is important which of the several unions acting in manufacturing industry is responsible for negotiations with the employer association. |
