Abstract:Often a resource's capacity is wasted due to breakdowns or slowdowns. To prevent these capacity losses, Nakajima developed total productive maintenance (TPM). Asten Inc. is successfully applying TPM and views it as the foundation for their marketplace gains. In this article, Asten's TPM implementation is examined and compared to the recommended steps enumerated by Nakajima. Asten's TPM implementation shortened cycle times, improved product quality, increased productivity, reduced work in process, and enhanced equipment reliability.
